Once these initial contacts have been made, we begin to introduce a handling ritual. What we can do on our broodmares (such as grooming, footholds, etc.) we approach with our foals.
We wean around 8-10 months of age depending on the temperament of each foal and their development with their mothers and the herd. Our observation work is all the more crucial at this time of their lives.
So the foals go through this stage in calm and in the best conditions, it is also an opportunity for us to deepen the handling work previously covered under the mother.
So our foals leave handled for the basics (grooming, foot, halter, etc.) and an initial desensitization work started (spray, other animals, etc.).
