The Curly horse, also called the North American Curly Horse, is a fascinating and original equine breed, immediately recognizable by its unique curly coat which gives it a unique appearance.
The sensitive, docile and courageous Curly!
Above all, he is extremely attentive to humans, an innate characteristic in him which is only possible in other horses after special work.
His particularly calm and gentle character, even among breeding stallions, does not prevent him from being a valiant sports horse and from having good results in dressage, show jumping competitions, endurance, western riding or even carriage driving.
To sum up, all disciplines are open to him!
The Hypoallergenicity of the Curly Horse
One of the particularities of the Curly breed and which has largely made its reputation is its hypoallergenicity.
However, it took some time before we had scientific proof of this.
Although the INRA in France looked into the subject without success (the institute nevertheless tended to show that the hypoallergenic character of the breed was plausible), it was Doctor Wolfgang Mitlehner who, after much work on the subject, ended up proving that the Curly breed does indeed carry this characteristic.
Conducted over several years, this study also irrefutably proves that visiting Curly desensitizes people with allergies.
Thus, a person who is highly allergic to horses sees their allergy decrease over the months of using a Curly, very often allowing them to use non-Curly horses or at least to be in close contact with non-Curly horses.
Apart from Dr. Mitlehner's study, there are many testimonies illustrating this astonishing faculty.
Being around Curly horses helps to desensitize you to horsehair allergies and allows you to get back on track, not only with a Curly horse, but also with any other horse.
